    Default Beginner Surfboard

Expedia Bali 72 hr Sale. Up to 55% off Hotels, Hurry, Book Now! Book by 31 Jan – 2 Feb for Travel Dates 31st Jan – 31st May
Was contemplating on either a Mini-Mal or a Fishboard... after much consideration, i've decided to go with a Fishboard for a few reasons (correct me if I'm wrong)...
    - Still good for a beginner
    - Will be a good board for different kind/sizes of waves so this board should last be longer and hence, not needing to change in the near future?

Now, I've been looking at 6' 3" or 6' 4"... ebay prices are about $350 (not 7s).. and RRP prices at shops are about $500-600 for the 7s brands.. Is there anything to keep a lookout for when buying from ebay? there's just a big price difference there... or does it matter since i'm just a beginner then..

Any thoughts or advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!

i would personally go with the minimal if you are just starting out. if you really want a fish, then i would get one longer than 6'4".

    Hi,

I am just starting too and I bought a 7 foot fishboard advertised on Ebay. Went to the showroom though and it cost me $369 from Balmoral boards.

I am really happy with it - Just starting to get on the waves regularly now...

If anything though, with me being a rookie and the surf being small, it could even be a little longer...

    Cheers

    James

    Hi guys

Sorry didn't think this needed new thread but i am getting quite a bit of conflicting advise on what size board i need. i'm about 6ft tall and about 100kg.

One place is teling me that i should start at a big mal bout 9'2" / 9'3" and said i would have trouble getting onto a wave with nything smaller. But others are saying i could go for a 7ft mini mal.

I was all set to buy a 7'4" mini mal untill i got this latest piece of info and not i have no clue what to do. I don't want to buy a board that i cant get a wave with but on the other hand iwant a board small enough that will last me a few years that when i am past my novice stage i can stilluse and is reasonably manouverable.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Well from what info Ive had over the years Ive procrastinated about getting back into surfing, I`d say a 7'6" mini mal would do you fine. Im 5'10" and 92kg and just picked one up today. cant wait to use it. A full mal will get you on the waves , but manouverability after you get better will be a bit limited. Thats my opinion anyway.

Well finally, After a long arduous search, I have finally found and purchased my first board. 8' 0" x 22" x 2 3/4" mini mal. I pick it up tomorrow, so excited to finally get out there and hit the waves.
