what comes after mini mal?

Time to ditch the mini mal and start riding bigger waves, but does any one recommend going from a mini to a fish tail or just straight onto a short board ?

And would any one recommend going to a local shaper or just find a board that i think will suit,
with a fair budget im thinking getting a shaper might charge well over my budget to shape one for my needs ?

A fish isn't a bad idea at all, however if its for bigger waves as in big surf then probably a shortboard is worthy. A fish won't go to waste though so i reckon have a go with one
