Should it be there ? I believe it should, there are plenty of sports like Rafting, BMX (new) and certain unamed swimming activities that surely warrant review...

Surfing should be in the olympics games but there is one problem: all countries don't have surf spots...

Surfing in the Olympic Games is a great idea! artificial snow is possible and artificial waves in a swimming pool are possible too !! I think it will be great for amateurs because ASP wouldn't want...

I voted a yes. I agree that it may be hard as some countries to not have access to surf breaks, or ocean whatsoever, but I guess some of the other sports also exclude some countries that do not have the required resourses. Unless you meant that if the olympics were held at a country without beaches, in that case I'm not sure.

I think it would be great for our sport to be recognised as an olympic sport (rather than the old view that some people used to have about surfers all being lazy beach bums) but I wonder if it would take away the 'exclusive' feeling that surfers share. At the moment surfing is not only a sport but also a lifestyle. I agree that it would be great for the amateurs, although if the pro's qualified then I can't see the amateurs getting in, but if the pro's were too busy in the ASP then there would be some room for juniors.

That was a pretty mixed response but all in all I say that I would be stoked to see surfing in the olympics. Interesting topic.

Yes very interesting topic !! But as you said, surfing isn't only a sport but for sure a right lifestyle and i'm not sure than surfing in Olympic games will be ok with this lifestyle.

Said what I meant only better
Could you imagine surfers being all strict and training for the olympics. I mean aside from the normal stuff surfers do to stay in shape for surfing. Australia would rip though, especially if it was just at comonwealth games.

Yea i can't see it Woolley, i think the Olympics is for different kind of sports that have some measure of consistency i.e a static track or circuit... what i mean is the 100m is always 100m long, archery always has targets at a set range, hockey has a field and so to do all the other sports of that nature - tennis, soccer etc... I think surfing is a bit tricky to implement - the only other sport close is mountain biking i guess - even that has a predefined track along with sports like whitewater rafting... Would be good to see it, however i doubt it will ever happen

Yeah i'd agree with it never happening. But you never know. Plus all the pro's would be tied up with ASP which is way better. Agree with the consistency, too hard to judge, too relative to weather and swell, although that is also an issue for the ASP but still thats surfing. Also not all countries that host the olympics have beaches so that would also count it out.
