    Hi all,

I'm new here, and have recently taken an interest in surfing after a lesson. I was hooked on the feeling of catching a wave so am hoping to pursue it now...

I used to skateboard for many years and have a pretty good level of balance etc, I felt reasonably comfortable in my first lesson and was able to stand up first go which was exciting.

Anyways, was hoping to get some tips on how best to start out etc. I'm hoping to do a few more lessons soon, but meanwhile I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on the following:

Should I bother getting a board for myself, or just keep doing lessons/renting?
What sort of board should I buy as a relatively natural beginner but something that will last me as I develop my skills? (I'm about 5'8" and 65kg)
How many lessons should I get, or is it acceptable to buy a board and try and pick the basics up myself?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Get yourself a board, something with a bit of meat to it so that its stable, easy to paddle and stand up on, you should be able to pick up a second hand board somewhere easily. Perhaps get a few lessons here and there, however the best thing to do is just go out and surf as much as you can, just be aware of your limits and be aware of the break, rips, size of the waves etc... The only way to get better is by surfing
