Peru Hosts The ALAS Reef Classic

Sebastian de Romana performs in excellent conditions with conditions that look to be heading in the right direction to see some great waves in the final days of competition. One Hundred and Eighteen Surfers registered for the ALAS Reef Classic in Peru setting an all time record for entrants since the competitions original beginning.

The six star event with a prize amount of $20,000 combined with 6,000 points for rankings set off with nice one to one and a half metre conditions at the famous Punta Rocas. The under twenties kicked off the morning, with a total of twenty five rounds including four rounds for the Women's Categories. The Stadium offered excellent waves and showed off how truly awesome the talent is within the ALAS Surfing Tour.

The top four scores were all above fourteen points.

The Pro Junior category only contains six remaining surfers for the semi finals. Mexican surfer Dylan Southworth scored a 13.70 with Maximilian Cross following closely on 13.10, despite his solid performance in the Junior he was knocked out of competition in the Open Pro. Francisco Bellorin scored 12.93 eliminating Jesus Chacon (11.93) and Guillermo Satt (11.44).

For his part, the young and promising Peruvian Carlos Mario Zapata reached 12.27 points, who with Cristobal de Col are the Peruvian representatives still alive in competition for this category.

In the Women's the best results were achieved by the two Argentine sisters Pellazzari, averaging around ten points each. There are four Peruvian women holding the flag going into the semi finals

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with better surf conditions expected for the remaining days of the Open Pro and semi finals for the Longboard category.

On the 15th February the competition continued in conditions around the one and a half metre mark. Rafael Pereyra of Venezuela marked the highest championship average with a 17.67 in the Pro Junior and the second highest average in the Open Pro. He gave a promising show of his skill set and determination to reach the podium in the ALAS Classic. He also received the best wave in the heats of the Pro Junior with a 9.17. In the Open Pro he achieved the second highest score of 8.83, his outstanding bond between balance board and rider allowed him to perform some astonishing manoeuvre's and show off his aerial abilities.

The Ladies semi finals was divided into two, one of five and one of four. The Pellizarri sisters took control of their respective heats, Sofia Borquez, Nadja de Col and Dominique Barona all ensured a place in the finals. The Quarter finals of the Junior hit the waves. Pereya, Dylan Southworth, Cristobal de Col, Manuel Selman, Guillermo Satt, Jesus Chacon and Francisco Bellorin will meet again in the semi finals.
